Since 2018, the Cape Perpetua Collaborative has taken the lead in coordinating these surveys at Yachats State Park. During low tide in the summer months, a dedicated team of volunteers ventures out to conduct Sea Star Surveys at the park. The Sea Star Surveys conducted at Yachats State Park play a crucial role in understanding Sea Star Wasting Syndrome (SSWS) and its evolution over time and location. The data is contributed to a West Coast-wide database hosted by the Multi-Agency Rocky Intertidal Network. These surveys are helping to monitor sea star populations adjacent to the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve. Learn more about sea star wasting here:  seastarwasting.org
